About this section

This section explains how to install home automation in a house built or under construction, and recommendations for our programs TouchHome and SpeakHome can achieve better performance.

Also, based on our extensive experience in plant engineering as home automation,we recommend you the X10 most appropriate devices for each function. These devices can be found in many ratail outlet and an unbeatable price on our website.

Principles X10

X10 PROTOCOL

X10 es un protocolo X10 is an open protocol that allows sending signals through the conventional power grid. The X10 signal transmitter connected to your computer sends signals to the power grid and, moreover, each element has a receptor domotic able to read the orders are sent. All X10 receivers are compatible with the drive of a typical electrical installation: switches and buttons. Therefore, installing a home automation is added to the conventional electrical system and it will continue to operate even though we have a problem in the automation system.

Bidirectional receivers emit an X10 ever changing state, so that even if activated by a conventional switch or button, the PC will be informed of this action through the X10 and issuer knows that the element has been activated, and capable of reflecting the real state of the icon and in its internal memory. The system reflects the actual state of the devices at all times. All PC X10 issuers are bidirectional, ie they are able to send and receive X10 commands.

In the installation of a home can have up to 256 elements that domotics identified with a letter from A to P, and a number from 1 to 16 for each letter.

A1, A2,… A16

B1,B2, …B16

.

.

.

P1,P2,… P16

Each combination of letter and number is called X10 direction and serves to designate a unique form of automation.

The elements may be combined and activated by a single order X10 unleashing a series of orders to be activated. This is known as the environment or macro. Macros are identified by a letter, number and state, ON or OFF. For example, a macro could be:

B3 ON encompass actions A1 ON, E3 OFF, G4ON.

while another macro:

B3 OFF may include the actions A1 ON, E3 OFF, G5 ON, A2 OFF.

Although two macros take the same letter and are associated with anti-state need not do opposite actions such as the elements, where the action associated with an ON will do the opposite with OFF , for example, if A1 ON turns the light On, A1 OFF will turn the light off.

CONTROLLER OF SIGNAL FOR X10 PC

Devices are responsible for emitting and receiving orders from and to the X10 PC, which will be processed by TouchHome and SpeakHome.

Controller CM11

Your connection to the PC is done via telephone cable 4-wire terminated at one end with RS232 connector for serial port on the PC and plug the other end of telephone RJ9 for the CM11. On the other hand, is connected to the grid through the male plug.

Controller CM15

Its connection to the PC is done via USB. The controller plugs directly into the mains. It has an RF receiver to receive signals from the automation control EasyTouch.

cm15a.jpg

WARNING: Remove all kinds of programs stored in the sending of signals.

WARNING: The EasyTouch control code is not secure. If you do not use the command EasyTouch recommend you remove the antenna CM15 to avoid unwanted signal inputs.

X10 FILTER

This is the most important element of an X10 installation. For proper placement and the type of filter chosen will depend on proper functioning of the automation system.

X10 is a filter element capable of preventing the same frequency waves that our domotics (120 KHz) can pass through our circuit. To achieve the greatest possible effectiveness of the filter, it is placed immediately before the circuit domotic normally circuit lighting and circuit blinds. This part of the facility called the filtered line.

Please note that the neutral line (blue wire) is not filtered, not flowing through the filter. However, the filter will need a neutral reference, which is sufficient to connect through a cable section of 1.5 mm2 up to the terminal "N" filter.

In the diagram below shows the recommended location of the X10 filter after differential and before the circuit breakers that protect domotics lighting and blinds.

       PLANO9.wmf

Instead, the filter SFX40 of XANURA filters the neutral and its connection diagram is as follows:

       PLANO9.wmf

In many installations the filter is located at the entrance of the power line of the house, before or after the general breaker thereby avoiding that the noise signals from other homes may interfere with the automation of the house. But it did not eliminate potential sources of noise from power lines of the house itself as in the washing machine, dishwasher, thermo ... Therefore we must continue the pattern of previous installation.

If we want to make a plug in a connection for a lamp, and have installed the filter as the previous scheme, we must connect the plug to the filtered line or lighting line, otherwise the signal will not arrive until smart home plug. The figure below illustrates this example.

    PLANO11.wmf

Low quality transformers for halogen lamps can provide noise problems in our facility. In this case, the simpler and cheaper solution is change them. Another possible solution is to place filters that prevent partial X10 noise from the lamps back to the facility. However, except in exceptional cases, we do not recommend the use of filters for X10 elements in the wiring.

The installation of halogen lamps at 230V/110 V without transformer solves the problem completely.

Electronic equipment PC, DVD, TV can also give problems absorbing the X10 signal. It is recommended to connect these elements in the not filtered line.

If your panel does not have enough space for the installation of the filter can change the standard breakers for breakers half-size, such as Merlin Gerin - DPN-series or similar.

Here are different types of filters of increasing efficiency.

SCOPE OF THE SIGNAL

The scope of the X10 signal is a function of meters of cable through which it circulates. By placing the filter properly cut the possible paths of the signal domotics raising the signal level where it concerns us that it comes. That is, if you do not consume energy from the signal in non domotic lines the signal is strongest on the automation lines.

The following analogy clarifies the above. A ball supported by two springs, upon receiving an impact transmitting the disturbance amplitude A to both springs. In the case of cutting one of the springs (similar to put the filter x10), the disturbance shall be absorbed by a single spring, and then the wave generated will be double amplitude.

            PLANO10.wmf

Considering domotic circuit as the sum of the lengths of the cables that feed domotics devices where the signal can travel, we believe that a conservative limit to avoid problems would be:

    CM11, CM15…………………………………...2000 meters

Another point to remember is that no domotics lights within a domotic circuit increaser the length of the filtered line, as cable where the x10 signal travel, X10 extends through the push buttons, switches and crossings that control each lamp, while the domotic light , filtered line dies in the line feeding the micromodule.

If you have problems reaching the X10 signal, you can use the signal amplifiers Xanura SVX10.

AW12.jpg

LOCATION OF MICROMODULE

The micromodule can be installed either behind switches or in junction boxes, we recommend installation in the junction boxes, as they have the strips of splicing of the stage where you can connect the neutral and earth. If you install them behind switches, you will need to send the neutral cable for some modules. This neutral line must always spliced from the filtered line.

CONTROL OF UNIDIRECTIONAL LIGHT

AW12: Light fixed unidirectional

Light fixed unidirectional AW12 The AW12 is a module capable of controlling a unidirectional load up to 2000 w in lamps or 3600 w in resistive loads.

AW12.jpg

At the next level you can see the different ways you can find the lighting of a lamp in any house:

Switch: light is lit from a single position.

Double switch: the lamp is lit from two positions.

Double + crossing switch: the light turns from three positions.

PLANO1.wmf

To install an AW12 cut the cable coming from the switch or switches and runs through the lamp, and connect:

·      One end to the AW12 cable

·      The other end to the terminal marked with sine wave in the AW12 module

·      Finally, connect a black wire between the terminal phase of the carrier splices and terminal "L" from AW12 and one blue wire from the terminal of the neutral carrier connections to any of the terminals "N" from AW12

PLANO2.wmf

Programming:

To enter the programming mode of the module, activate the button repeatedly until the lamp stops lamp switching. Then the micromodule has entered in programming mode. Or if you do from the Touchhome program, open the tab "programming", select the address (number and letter) and send twice. .

To return to normal mode by repeatedly pressing the switch or wait for one minute.

WARNING: The micro module make a slight noise as change of state.

LW12 Dimmable Unidirectional Light

Allows you to control and regulate a halogen or incandescent light up to 250 w. In the typical case of 50 W halogen lamps can connect up to 5 units with a single micromodule.

LW12.jpg

In this case it is necessary to replace the switches or to push buttons to regulate power from the push button. To regulate the light from the push, down enough to keep up to the level of illumination required. The lamp will turn off or turn on with a rapid pulse recalling the degree of illumination as before shutdown.

To install a LW12 need to cut the cable that turns off from the switch or switches and runs through the lamp and connect:

  •   An end to the terminal "K" from AW12 through a carrier splice
  •   the other end to terminal SL
  •   Finally, connect the terminal phase or the L line of the filtered carrier splice

In the foreground you can see the installation of a lamp before domotic and the second would be like after you install and micromodule.

BI-DIRECTIONAL LIGHT CONTROL

AW12  and  LWM1

The equivalent to the LW12 and AW12 modules but the modules are bidirectional:

In the case of Marmitek products:

AWM2.jpg    LWM11.gif

AWM2 to fix light.             LWM1 for dimmable light.

In the case of Xanura products:

SAIX12.bmp                 DAIX12_m.gif

SAIX12 to fix light.             DAIX12 for dimmable light.

These modules have a dual role. On the one hand, can control a light (the first address), and issued an order every time they light it changes state, so you can know at any given moment their actual condition, although triggered by pushbutton. TouchHome and SpeakHome reflect the actual state of these micromodule at every moment. On the other hand, can issue a direction (second address) each time the button is activated. Thus, pressing once sent both directions with the ON state and the second time you press the send off in two directions. This second signal is normally used to activate a macro or environment created in the program TouchHome. A typical example is use a press button to put down all the blinds of the plant of the house, turn on or off the air conditioning or heating, ...

The installation can be done with two buttons, and in this case, we may send the second address without having to actuate the element corresponding to the first direction. See diagram of installation.

PLANO6.wmf

We recommend Xanura modules, as well as deliver a stronger signal bidirectional best avoid being masked by noise, received the order to change state voltage 230 V. With bidirectional Marmitek case. They receive the order for contact-free potential problems may exist if the button is located far from the micromodule.

WARNING: When making a greater push for 2 seconds, the module will issue an order to ON to OFF and press release.

But if the pulses are short, the module will issue an order only ON or OFF and the counter on the next keystroke.

To create an environment activated by touch, we advise you to create the same environment with the address ON and OFF so sure that with a long press or short environment will be executed.

UNIDIRECTIONAL MOTOR CONTROL: BLINDS, CURTAINS AND AWNINGS

SW10

The SW10 is in a double switch Marmitek card domotics including allowing the control of a blind, shade or awning motorized.

sw10c.jpg           sw10.jpg

For use must replace blind series switches in your house for this element, which is often tedious aesthetically.

BI-DIRECTIONAL ENGINE CONTROL: BLINDS, CURTAINS AND AWNINGS

ZAX 12

ZAX 12 XANURA card is the most comprehensive on the market. Thanks to its small size allows installation in small junction boxes, and even behind switches or sockets .

MARMITEK_SWM1P.jpg

In the following diagram you can see its installation.

PLANO12.wmf

With it you can move the blinds or curtains by X10 orders or dual button. Pressing the button leads to connect the purple wire, the blinds go up and press the white cable go down. However, if you pressed one of two during the fall or the rise, the blind will stops.

By X10 orders you can put up, down or even regulate the blind opening. ZAX12 card has other options that are not so interesting for our project.

Programming:

To program the micromodule ZAX12 you must follow these steps:

1. Drive up the blind until the highest position of its travel.

2. Hold down the button programming for at least 3 seconds.

3. Send the address of micromodule twice since the program TouchHome or SpeakHome.

4. Pressing the button leads to the white wire connected, lower the blind to its lowest position.

5. Pressing the button leads to connect the purple wire up the blind to their highest position.

6. Click the button programming instantly or wait 60 seconds for the micromodule exit programming mode.

If you've installed this micromodule may regulate the opening of the blind or curtain to the desired position from TouchHome and SpeakHome.

The card SWM1P of Marmitek is equivalent to ZAX12 Xanura.

WARNING: The micromodule offers other features, notably a second direction to a preset position. Avoid giving the succession of blind signal to another element, it can cause confusion. That is, if you define the blind as an H1, not use H2 address for any other element.

CONTROL A.A. AND HEATING

To control equipment that can cause X10 noise in our filtered line, we must operate through an auxiliary contactor. A typical case is often the connection of the air conditioner.

The contactor should have 230 V power and contact should be able to withstand the intensity that the device needs to be connected. Normally should be sufficient to 25A.

Radiators heat blue can be automated in the same way.

             PLANO7.wmf

WARNING: Automation cutting its power means that the device has memory and remember the state in which it was before shutting down.

Is easier when the apparatus is domotic and has a potential free contact to activate.

In this case instead of a contactor that supports the entire flow of the device in question, just need a relay with a normally open contact that we will close the contact to power the coil.

            PLANO8.wmf

VIDEO DOOR ENTRY

In this case we use the same scheme as above for, by the contact potential free AA's video, open the door and deliver the welcome speech.

CENTRALIZED VERSUS DISTRIBUTED INSTALLATION

Although it is usual to install the micromodule in junction boxes in the homes under construction can choose to centralize all the elements in an electric domotics panel. This system has several advantages.

·   Faced with a breakdown is not necessary to open the junction box housing, because all elements are in automation panel.

·   The signal level is higher.

·   The main drawback is the additional costs of the centralized facility.

·   The following pictures can be seen diagrams of a junction box in a distributed, and the electrical panel in a centralized facility.

WARNING:  Do not recommend installing the AD10 module in electrical panel, by their need for space and its risks of malfunction because of the heat.

X10 ORDERS FROM THE ALARM

The alarm X10 allows the following functions:

·  Orders from the keyboard

The alarm is capable of controlling up to 15 addresses X10. To do this you must choose a letter ( "home code" of the alarm) which initially is the "A" and pressing keys on the light on and light off followed by the number of element X10, you can connect or disconnect elements or environments.

It is also possible to adjust the intensity of the lights or opening the blinds or curtains, using the + and -.

·   SMS Orders

If you install a GSM alarm can activate elements or environments by messages. To do so, keep codes A1 ... A10 for environments or for items you want to turn from the outside. For example, to "turn off all lights, all the blinds down," "Air Conditioner connect ",...

Just follow the instructions in the user manual for the alarm POWERMAX, paragraph 6.5. Also, in paragraph 6.3 you can see how to send X10 commands by telephone, although this is somewhat more difficult.

·   Orders associated states of the alarm

Thanks to the X10 functionality of the alarm, you can associate elements or X10 environment of states of the alarm. For example, you can create the macro:

A1 ON: Exit = house lights turn off, blinds down, turning off heating, air conditioning shut down, simulate presence.

And involve armed the alarm. Or create the macro:

A2 OFF: Enter = open house front door, open garage door, light switch on the garage and living room (only if it is night), raise shutters, ...

And involve desarmed the alarm.

·   X10 commands associated with presence detectors

You can use the presence of detectors to activate the alarm PowerMax X10 commands, such as on or off lights.

For this, define the module x10, and assign a, b, c, to this module, and at this area you must assign the number Z of the detector witch has to activate x10 order. This way, you can get a light turn on or off , or by a fixed period set by the pulse time in 2 or 30 seconds, 2 or 4 minutes.

The detector that uses functions for automation functions have to define it as "without warning" and not carry out safety functions.

 MICROPHONE

The microphone quality is vital to the reliability of SpeakHome. 90% of the problems with “Speakhome” are due to hardware problems. The distance from where you can talk is depending of the quality of the microphone, the background noise with which it is to be able to recognize the system, the angle from which to speak into the microphone ...

Preferably the microphone has to be directional. The amplitude of the main lobe depends on the proper way to use and give you the relative position to have the speaker facing the microphone. Under normal conditions, the speaker must be within the main lobe of the directivity diagram of the microphone. The microphone should be positioned as close to the speaker and as far away from noise sources to obtain a good signal to noise ratio SNR.

When a close-talk microphone (e.g. a headset-mounted microphone) is used, the microphone should be positioned as close as possible to the mouth to maximize SNR, but should not be positioned directly in front of the mouth to avoid capturing breath noises, lip-smacks, and other mouth-produced noises. For example, the boom of a headset-mounted microphone should be adjusted so that the microphone is located at the corner of the mouth, about 2 cm from the lips’ corner. If possible, a sound-check procedure can be included in the application to make sure that the microphone is correctly positioned and delivers the proper signal levels. For operation in noisy environment, noise-canceling close-talk microphones are preferred.

When microphone arrays are used, they should be configured to make sure their noise rejection properties do not come at the cost of signal distortion that would adversely affect the recognizer’s operation.

The microphone sensitivity should be selected to match the microphone input circuitry and the acoustic signal level conditions in the intended mode of operation. More sensitive microphones do not always yield better performance as they may also capture more background noise.

Although SpeakHome operated with almost any type of microphone, an operation will be achieved with suitable microphones recommended "Alhena" which went on to describe:

Microphone Audio 920. Plantronics

Bluetooth wireless microphone technology.

Allows a radius of 10 meters of displacement and somewhat less when standing obstacles.

Video

The application of video will be available during 2009. With this application, in addition to overseeing security at home, you can incorporate the presence domotic functions by changes in pixels images. IP cameras can be wired (UTP Cable) or wireless, which will be installed anywhere without the need for housing construction or reform. Wired cameras simply need a UTP cable that also carries the electrical power required.
